PROJECT 1 - Curating the objects in the collection

RMM has several thousand model boats and ships, paintings, prints, and artefacts in its maritime history collections. We need volunteers to help with computerizing and physically organizing them for use in exhibits and research, and for long-term preservation. Basic computer skills will help.

PROJECT 2 - Arranging short-term rental or loan of model boats during building renovation

To protect our historic boat models, RMM has identified places in Cambridge where models will be on public display during building repairs. Volunteers will finalize arrangements and help prepare signage for the models to raise interest in maritime history and RMM. Graphic design and marketing skills will be valuable.

PROJECT 3 - Assembling and organizing the photographs, prints, and paintings

Volunteers will organize and catalog RMM’s large body of archival documents and photographs. Volunteers will be involved in selecting some for a new public exhibit. Organizing and decision-making skills will be important.

PROJECT 4 - Exhibit research and design

Volunteers will visit sites in the area such as boatyards, research organizations, historical societies and other museums to assemble content. Research and writing skills will be valuable, along with experience in making audio and video recordings of interviews that will be integrated into the exhibits.

We are looking for volunteers to help our museum grow. We welcome all skill levels, and we look forward to working with you!
