Pride of Baltimore II Visits Cambridge for Youth and Public Tours
August 16, 2024

The Richardson Maritime Museum, in partnership with the Pride of Baltimore II, is offering an exciting opportunity for Dorchester County Public Schools (DCPS) high school students to step aboard and imagine life as part of the crew during the age of sail. On a two-hour day sail, students will have the chance to raise and lower sails alongside the crew, just as sailors did over 200 years ago. They will learn about the history of the Baltimore Clipper and its crucial role in the War of 1812, while also hearing firsthand from the crew members about what it’s like to live and work on Pride II today.

The DCPS students participating in this unique experience have already shown an interest in boating and marine trade career pathways and are involved in the Career Coaching Program at both Cambridge South Dorchester High School (CSDHS) and North Dorchester High School (NDHS). After the sail, the students will be treated to a lunch provided by the Richardson Maritime Museum and Simmons Market. During lunch, several marine trade professionals will share their experiences and discuss the skills and knowledge students will need to succeed in marine trade careers.

The Pride of Baltimore II will arrive in Cambridge, Maryland, on Friday, August 30th, and will offer day and sunset sails to the public, along with deck tours on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of Labor Day weekend. This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to experience the historic vessel and learn more about its significance. Registration is available on the Pride of Baltimore II flyer on our website.

This initiative not only immerses students in maritime history but also provides them with valuable insights into potential career paths within the marine industry, making it a comprehensive and enriching experience.
